Omar named FIFA U-17 World Cup ambassador The United Arab Emirates (UAE) midfielder Omar Abdulrahman has been named as the ambassador of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2013. The 21-year old Emirati player, a key part of the UAE national team, has helped UAE lead Group E of the ongoing AFC Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers ahead of Hong Kong, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. “It’s helped numerous stars to get a first taste of a major international competition. I’m thinking of players like Luis Figo, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Petit and Neymar. That’s why I’m sure that we’ll witness a superb tournament,” he was quoted by FIFA. The UAE is hosting the tournament later this year with Uzbekistan, Japan, Iran, Iraq as well as hosts UAE representing Asia. “Football is extremely popular in the region. The 24 best U-17 teams in the world will be here in October, and I’m positive the tickets will sell like hotcakes,” he added.
