On 08-06-2014, at about midday Inyo County Sheriffs Office was contacted by a local packer who reported an abandon campsite near Third Lake on the North Fork of the Big Pine Canyon. Deputies began investigating the incident which lead to a missing persons report for 27 year old Chicago resident, Brenton Wright. Further investigation by Deputies revealed that Wright had been in the Eastern Sierra for one month solo climbing various famed routes. Wilderness permit records showed Wright to have obtained a wilderness permit for the Third Lakes area for 07-30-2014 to 08-01-2014. After hearing of Wrights disappearance, a famed local climber, spoke with Deputies and stated that he had met Wright while bouldering in the Buttermilk area on 07-29-2014. Wright explained his ambitious route and plans to the local climber, which he was going to start on 07-30-2014. Inyo County Search and Rescue Team was called upon to locate Wright in a massive area of technical terrain. California Highway Patrol Helicopter H-80 out of Apple Valley responded to provide Ariel recognizance and troop transport. The morning of 08-07-2014, Inyo County Search and Rescue Teams, with the assistance of California Highway Patrol Helicopter H-80, were able to locate Wright. Wright was found between the Venetian blind and Moon Goodess arete. Unfortunatley Wright had suffered fatal injuires due to a fall. Sequoia Kings National Park Heilocopter responded to assist Inyo County Search and Rescue ground Teams in recovering Wright. The Inyo County Sheriffs Office would like to thank California Highway Patrol Heilocopter H-80 and Sequoia Kings National park for their assistance.
