On 1 January, a vast range of attacks on the welfare state (which passed the Senate in November with Labor Party support) were introduced. Considering that both major political parties are deliberately trying to distract the general public from these harsh attacks on our welfare system, the Australian Unemployment Union has produced a brief list detailing these attacks: Coalition attacks on Welfare state introduced as of 1 January 2015 1. Means test for incomes over $100,000 for school kids bonus (previously $150,000) 2. Applicants for Newstart, sickness, widow or youth allowances, or parenting payments will have to wait an extra week before receiving payments. 3. Tougher Disability Support eligibility with applicants to be assessed by government-approved doctor 4. Overseas DSP recipients will have payments cut after 4 weeks 5.
