On 12th May 1982 the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth 2 set sail from Southampton carrying over 3000 British troops and 650 Cunard volunteers. As part of an extraordinary British Task Force that comprised 127 ships, she travelled 7500 miles to assist in the liberation of a group of tiny windswept islands in the South Atlantic, the Falkland Islands. The QE2 arrived safely back in Southampton on June 11th 1982.
