On 18 June, Equality Now joins the UNHCR, Mission of the United States & the Womens Refugee Commission at the Geneva, Switzerland Launch of the International Campaign to End Gender Discrimination in Nationality Laws. London Director Jacqui Hunt will moderate a panel of distinguished speakers at this side event of the 26th session of the UN Human Rights Council, led by a coalition of NGOs and supported by UNHCR and UN Women. Gender discrimination in nationality laws has far-reaching consequences on all aspects of family life and is a significant cause of statelessness. 27 countries continue to discriminate against women in their ability to pass on their nationality to their children on an equal basis as men, and over 60 countries deny women equal rights with men to acquire, change or retain their nationality.
