On 28th August 1896, noted contemporary Urdu poet Firaq Gorakhpuri was born in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Firaq Gorakhpuri was the pen name of Raghupati Sahay, who apart from being a prolific poet was also a writer and critic. Till today, Gorakhpuri remains one of the most well known and significant Urdu poets in India. Gorakhpuri wove magic with his pen and earned a name for himself among his peers, such as Josh Malihabadi, Yagana Changezi, Muhammad Iqbal and Jigar Moradabadi.
