On 9th of February this year I posted a visual of Professor Suniti Kumar Chatterjis daughter Sati Devis wedding invitation card...her marriage took place on 1st of December, 1952...Professor Chatterji, being a polyglot himself, had very effectively used certain ancient Brahmi characters to design his daughters wedding card... My post had attracted considerable attention from friends and one of them, Mr Suresh Bomble of Maharashtra deciphered the last three Brahmi lines into Devanagari thus: (i) असतोमासद्गमय (i.e. असतो मा सद्गमय) (ii) काश्यपस्यदेवशर्मण: (i.e. काश्यपस्य देवशर्मण:) (iii) सुनीतिकुमारस्य Now, last evening came a surprise...another friend of mine, who will be marrying this November, had used the same design for her wedding card as well !! Though on the new invitation-card they effected couple of changes by replacing Sunitibabus Brahmi with modern Bangla, the bottom 3rd. line (i.e.सुनीतिकुमारस्य) was kept intact...here both the visuals are uploaded for comparison... Thus Professor Chatterji prevailed*...and I have already congratulated my Facebook friend... :) *Chatterjis generally prevail, it seems !!
