On Coal-fired power plant... Steven P.C. Fernandez posted to IITians 5 hrs · IMPENDING DANGER IN ILIGAN! Iligan City is posed to put up a coal-powered plant to augment our power needs. We only knew about this recently as it seems there was not enough effort to inform us citizens of this plan. Incidents indicate subterfuge. Majority of the city council approved of the plan. For any layman, me included, coal plants destroy the environment. They also cause health problems particularly cancer. The plan is to construct a plant in Kiwalan just a few kilometers from the city proper. Now, I need professional help. Studies indicate the hazards of this far outweighs the economic gains these plants can contribute. How can we stop this? Can we immediately create a critical mass of dissenters to stop the coal plant from being constructed? We look to a bright future, and this future says we need to live in a safe environment. Fighting off the mining companies is draining enough. Now our people will have to contend with another monster that forebodes of a city which air is full of carcinogens. I can not understand, as always, how learned people of our council can allow an abomination to live with us and make living dangerous here. These councilors are my friends. But have they thought of their children, and their children who will also have their future children? I have an idea: maybe we can post posters all over the city showing the deathly effects of coal, similar to what cigarettes do on their packs. #UnCoal #ResistCoal
