On Day 80 of the disaster, we are investigating. A delegation - TopicsExpress

On Day 80 of the disaster, we are investigating. A delegation returns to where we started this fight. Ground zero of the Imperial Metals Mount Polley mine tailings dam breach of August 4, 2014. We return here to seek the truth again. The last time we were in Yuct Ne Senxiymetkwe, Likely area, we were monitoring, publishing reports, holding community feasts and broadcasting the real effects of this disaster on the area, on the Indigenous Nations all along the Fraser River Watershed, on Likely residents and on all other life in the area. We were also carefully documenting the well established relationship between the provincial government and the Imperial Metals corporation that revealed itself so blatantly in the aftermath of the catastrophe. We have said again and again, there are no meaningful clean up efforts, no meaningful containment efforts, no enforcement against the corporation that destroyed an entire ecosystem. Imperial Metals Steve Robertson has openly admitted this in interviews and statements. Today, we went to see for ourselves what is actually happening in the area that once was a forest, a creek and a pristine glacier fed lake. Even we were surprised at the audacity and continuing negligence of Imperial Metals corporation. The totality of the efforts that have been made in what once was Hazeltine Creek are to cover up the naked destruction of the area. Roads have been created, not to haul the tailings out, but to haul dirt and gravel in. All the debris is pushed to the side to allow for this. It looks horrific. The mine sent 3 Secwepemc women to come ask us what band we were from. We never had bands, we were and still are one Nation, Secwepemculucw and the arbitrary divisions created by governments and corporations are destructive and ridiculous. The disaster happened in the Northern part of our territory and we are responding. We are disseminating the information we are gathering consistently and today we confirm that Imperial Metals corporation is very literally, aided and abetted by the province of so called B.C., covering up the billions of gallons of tailings released into the world in the largest industrial disaster in recent North American history. #imperialnomore #blockadeseverywhere
