On Friday, 11 July 2014 members received information about suspects who were loading cosmetic product at Northdale area in Pietermaritzburg. Upon arrival at Northdale the members went into a warehouse where they saw ten (10) people loading goods suspected to be stolen. The members questioned them about the goods but they failed to give satisfactory explanation. Through investigation, it appeared that the goods, all cosmetics, were taken from a truck that was allegedly hijacked at Cato Ridge on Tuesday, 08 July 2014. It was further established that the hijacking case was in fact a false case. During the operation, the members recovered five vehicles including Ivecco, VW Golf and a Mercedes Benz suspected to be used during the commission of a crime. Goods from the truck were allegedly off-loaded at the warehouse and later a false case was opened at Camperdown police station. The driver who allegedly reported a false hijacking is still at large. The arrested suspects are aged between 19 and 59 years will be facing charges of truck-jacking and possession of suspected stolen property. They are expected to appear in the Camperdown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 14 July 2014. The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the Camperdown police for working around the clock tracing the suspects. We will act harshly against those who report false cases to the police. ‘We also thank the public who gave information that led to the arrest and recovery of the goods’ - See more at: arrivealive.co.za/news.aspx?s=1&i=12870&page=Ten-held-for-stolen-cosmetics-from-allegedly-hijacked-truck-in-Pietermaritzburg#sthash.4vGTcppU.cltLnj5v.dpuf
