On Friday, August 8, 2014, at 9:00 a.m., the Minto West Application for Land Use Amendment is scheduled to be heard on transmittal, before the PBC Planning Commission. The Planning Commission is an advisory board to the Board of County Commissioners, and the members of the advisory board are in fact appointed by the County Commissioners. The meeting will be held at the Vista Center Planning, Zoning and Building Department, 1st Floor, Room 1W-47, 2300 North Jog Road, West Palm Beach, FL (Jog Road just north of Okeechobee Boulevard.) While this is not identified as a critical meeting, it would be awesome to have great turnout from our community. Both the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners and media will be tuned into how many of us actually do show up as an indicator of how strongly we are opposed. If you attend, fill out a comment card. You can choose to speak (let them hear your passion); or you can write your comments on the card (not always guaranteed to be read into the record). Make sure you check the box that you are opposed (assuming that you are). As noted by Todd, right now the Countys Staff Report says this: As of the writing of this report, staff has received 37 emails and 509 mailers in support. In addition, staff received 29 emails and letters in opposition which generally describe the traffic impacts that would be caused by the density and intensity increases as well as the effect on the lifestyle of the area. This leaves an impression that more in our community are in support than are opposed. We have not yet submitted the near 5,000 Petitions we have collected and will not be doing so until the August 27 BCC Transmittal Hearing. For those of you who are unable to attend the meeting, and who are in opposition, would you please consider sending an email (mention Minto West in your subject line) to the Members of the Planning Commission. Tell them any of the following: A. Your story - why you live here B. How this project will harm your quality of life C. Why this project just doesnt belong in our community D. That Minto knew what they were buying, and they should stick to the original approval of 2,996 residential units and 235,000 square feet of commercial. Ask them not to recommend approval of the project for transmittal to the State. There are the names and email address of the members of the Planning Commission. One of these email addresses is bad. I do not recall which one, but this is the list as received from the County back in April. First I list them individually and at the bottom, I just group all of the email addresses together so you can cut and paste them into an email.
