On Friday September 12, 2014, a tip led deputies to an area where whats believed to be 14 marijuana plants up to 12-13 feet tall were being grown. Lieutenant-Detective Tim Baker received an anonymous tip that photos were posted on Facebook of Whitley County resident posing in front of large marijuana plants. A second tip relayed information about where the plants could be located. Following that information, Sergeant Kirk Mays went to a Clifford Canada Road residence, where he asked Tony Canada, 20, if marijuana was growing on the property. Tony Canada said yes and showed deputies where the plants were located. He said the plants were being grown by him and family members. According to Tony Canada, one large plant was nicknamed Smiley and seeds to grow the plants were purchased after reading about them in a magazine advertisement. Arrested at the residence were Tony Canada, and his father, Ronald Canada, 45. Each is charged with cultivating in marijuana (more than five plants). The plants were photographed and destroyed. Sgt. Mays is investigating. Assisting in the case were Detective John Hill, Lieutenant Millard Root and Court Security Officer Carl Neal. More arrests are possible.
