On International Womens Day 1996, at a snow bound maternity - TopicsExpress

On International Womens Day 1996, at a snow bound maternity hospital, in Southport, England, a precious girl was born. What I remember most vividly, when she was safely handed to me, is my joy at the birth of a girl child on that day of all days. I thought of all those little girls who never made it into this world, simply because of their gender. I hoped for her that she would have the courage to make her life her own, and never be constrained by the limitations of a patriarchal world. I prayed that she would be a strong, kind, intelligent thinking woman, who would make a contribution to the world around her, and leave her mark in the hearts of others. My beautiful child is 18 today and she has already exceeded my dreams for her. Happy birthday, lovely girl! Go fly high now. You are loved x With thanks to Peter Thornton
