On January 10th, a group of eight Southeastern Guide Dogs In Training from Polk County and their volunteer Puppy Raiser families had the privileged of coming to Gatorland. During a yearlong program, the dogs become part of our families and hearts as we teach them basic obedience, good house manners and many of the commands they will need as future guides for the blind. Our pups are taken out in public frequently to restaurants and supermarkets, movies, and malls to get them used to staying focused amid the people and the many sights, sounds and smells they will encounter as service animals. Getting them comfortable with as many real world situations is crucial if theyre going to be put into service for people with disabilities. Thank you Gatorland and your staff for helping us to make the best future guide dog candidate possible. Laura Lawson Area Coordinator, Polk County Puppy Raisers
