On January 21st, Special Energy Envoy Amos Hochstein visited Basrah to show the U.S. Government’s support and assistance to Iraq in the oil energy sector. Mr. Hochstein met with the Director General of South Oil Company, Dheyaa Al Musawi, the Deputy Oil Minister, Fayadh Nima, and International oil companies, to discuss increasing oil production, reducing gas flaring and helping Iraqis gain employment in the oil sector. Envoy Hochstein also visited Pump Station One in the North Rumaila oilfields where 1.2 million barrels per day of oil are pumped for export.
