On January 8, 2015, 5:36 p.m., the Arlington Fire District was dispatched by DC911 for a house fire, with a report of occupants trapped, at 13 Vandewater Avenue (Town of Poughkeepsie). First arriving units were on scene within 3 minutes of dispatch and encountered a working structure fire at a single family residence that also spread to 2 vehicles, 1 camper, and a neighboring home. It was quickly determined that the four occupants inside the home at 13 Vandewater were able to escape prior to FD arrival. Firefighters quickly extinguished and prevented major damage to the adjacent home, vehicles, and camper. The fire in the main structure was under control within approximately 25 minutes. One occupant and one firefighter sustained minor injuries at the incident but did not require transportation to the hospital. Cold weather, wind, and icy conditions presented difficulties for personnel at the scene. 6 occupants of the main structure were displaced and receiving assistance from the Red Cross. Mutual Aid/Assisting Agencies at the scene: City of Poughkeepsie FD, Mobile Life Support Services, T/ Poughkeepsie Police, T/ Poughkeepsie Bldg. Dept., T/ Poughkeepsie Water Dept., T/ Poughkeepsie Highway Dept., Central Hudson, DC Dept. of Emergency Response, and the Red Cross. Mutual Aid Relocated to cover AFD stations: Pleasant Valley FD & New Hamburg FD. The fire was investigated by the Arlington Fire District Fire Investigation Division and the cause of the fire was determined to be from discarded ashes from a pellet stove (accidental). All fire department units and personnel cleared the scene at 9:01 p.m. While operating at the fire incident, the Arlington Fire District also responded to 4 additional incidents of various types within the District.
