On July 16th, 2013 at 12:05 a.m., Hamilton Police responded to investigate a disturbance on Lilacside Drive in Hamilton. Neighbours called police after hearing loud noises outside of the house and a man and woman’s voice shouting. The neighbour then heard a woman’s voice yelling for help as she had been stabbed. On further investigation it was learned that an unknown man was first observed walking east on Lilacside Drive, he then crossed over the front lawn of one of homes and jumped over the railing onto the porch. The man then entered the house headfirst through the front window of the home. Once inside the home he was confronted by the homeowner, an 86-year-old woman. The man then presented a knife and cut the woman. He then fled the house by again jumping headfirst through a back window. He jumped over the fence and was last seen running towards Mohawk Road East. Once the suspect left the house the victim made her way outside and walked to a neighbour’s house screaming that she had been stabbed. Both police and EMS were called. The victim was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. At approximately 12:15 a.m., police received another call for a man breaking into an apartment on Mohawk Road East in the area of East 27th Street. It was learned that the same suspect traveled through the back parking lot of the building and then broke into another residence. The suspect gained entry by again going headfirst into the window. He was met on the other side of the window by a 15-year-old teen. The teen becoming startled, ran out of the room to tell his mother, who then called police. Police and EMS responded and found the suspect in medical distress. The 23-year-old man was transported to hospital and has since passed away. The identity of the deceased will remain unannounced at the request of the family. The Hamilton Police Service Division Three Detectives continues to investigate the circumstances of his death on behalf of the Coroner’s Office. Investigators ask that if anyone has any information leading up the disturbances in this area to call Det/Cst Butt at 9050546-4947 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
