On June 18, 2014 at approximately 8:30pm, Kitscoty RCM Police received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Hwy 16 heading eastbound towards Kitscoty. A Kitscoty member set up surveillance on the highway and observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle turn south on range road 32. The member followed the vehicle for approximately 2 kms when it suddenly pulled in to a residential yard. The Kitscoty member approached the vehicle and observed the male and female occupant of the vehicle attempting to change places so it appeared that the male was no longer driving. When confronted with this observation the male, later identified as John Robert CRAIG, became belligerent and evasive by refusing to identify himself or cooperate with the Police. When the member attempted to arrest CRAIG he fled out the window of the vehicle and engaged in a physical altercation with the member. After a brief fight, CRAIG was arrested and secured. Police were able to utilize the Livescan fingerprint system to positively identify CRAIG after he supplied a number of false alias and finally determined that he was subject to a Canada Wide warrant for breaching his Parole conditions. In addition to the Parole Warrant, CRAIG was subject to a Canada Wide driving prohibition and will face a number of new charges associated to this incident. CRAIG is currently in custody awaiting his return to prison in Saskatchewan.
