On March 10, 1973, a devastating F4 tornado struck Hill County, killing 6 people and injuring 75 others in the Hubbard area. The tornado first developed in McLennan County and eventually dissipated in Limestone County. from Storm Data, March 1973: Shortly after 6AM a tornado caused heavy damage to two houses in Mart. At 6:10 it destroyed the Lakeview Bath House just east of Tradinghouse Creek Reservoir. Two cars were overturned and one home destroyed. Two injuries resulted. Tornado moved north to the town of Watts, at County Line Road and Highway 84, where it destroyed six homes and one trailer. Four homes and two taverns were also damaged. The storm carried a trailer several hundred yards. Tornado then struck a trailer house 2 miles south of Hubbard killing 3 occupants. The trailer was wrapped around a tree and parts were found as far as 1/2 mile away. At about 6:24AM the storm moved into Hubbard causing devastating damage and killing 3 people. Seventy-five others suffered injuries. About one third of the city was destroyed including about half of the business district. Forty-five homes were destroyed and seventy-five more suffered major damage. Seven businesses were destroyed and twelve others damaged. Power and water supplies were cut off.
