On March 11th, we posted about the 1984 Democratic debate hosted at the Fox. (Original post foxth.co/1izhkWd) Eddie was an usher at the time and kind enough to send us his memories of that day to share with you. The debate was one of the most unusual things I’ve ever ushered at the Fox. I remember that we had to fill out a form for the Secret Service and the call time was something like four hours before the debate started. There were metal detectors that everyone had to pass through to enter the building. That old building that used to be across Ponce where the parking lot is now (I think it was an old department store if I remember correctly) had sharpshooters on the roof and so did the Ponce Apartments (now the condos). Right before the debate began they had some of the ushers fill in the few empty seats so the house would look full when the television cameras turned around. It was an exciting day.
