On March 7th my husband Julz Roxx will be abseiling down Fort Dunlop building to raise money for Birmingham Childrens Hospital, take a look at his just giving page, donate if you can and share the page for us. Link is at the bottom of the post. Thank you, here is our story x In December 2014 my 21 month old (1 3/4 yr) old daughter, Beth, developed a nasty cough, the GP said she was fine however she continued to worsen, on December 21st we were admitted to our local childrens ward, the situation quickly escalated when they realised how bad the infection was, she had pneumonia in her right lung so we were transferred to Birmingham Childrens hospital late on the 23rd. When they began investigating further things quickly worsened again, our baby had nearly a pint of fluid pressing on and almost completely collapsing her lung, when they sent her for a scan it was discovered her airway had drastically swollen, on Christmas eve we were ushered into a room and told our daughter had been transferred to intensive care where she was on a ventilator and would go on to have a blood transfusion as the illness had made her so anaemic, we were told at that point that the future was very uncertain, we were allowed to stay near her in an emergency room and the nurses caring for her made little gestures which still made our Christmas special, even though our baby was hooked up to so many tubes and machines while we just sat and anxiously watched her oxygen levels slowly drop. The afternoon of Christmas day she received life saving surgery to fit a chest drain and remove the fluid from around her lung, the staff at Birmingham childrens hospital literally saved my daughters life, that is a debt we will never be able to fully repay, her stay on intensive care as a parent was the most frightening thing we had ever encountered, however the care and compassion of the staff made it a pleasant place to be and it was so clear to see how charity money is well spent for the benefit of the children in their care, it made this the best and worst Christmas all rolled into one we went on to spend a further five days in BCH, from cleaners to consultants all of the staff couldnt do enough for us and were also so accommodating of anxious friends and family coming and going We have a long road of follow up appointments but our daughter now appears to be almost back to her usual self, a feat we owe entirely to this fantastic hospital I have never abseiled in my life, and I hope that will encourage people to dig deep for this fantastic cause. The brief for this event is to dress up as a superhero - the true superheroes to me are the nurses that cared for my baby, so I will be abseiling dressed as a nurse! Yes, a nurse Our ordeal certainly felt like being in hell, however there are so many families who are going through similar situations or have been there much more long term, thats why they need our continued support, so please feel free to share this story and page and help us to raise as much money as possible to show our gratitude for all the amazing work they do https://justgiving/julian-Swinbourne
