On May 1 Labor Day, we honor WORK. Islam values ethics and hard work in that every act is honored by starting with the word, Bismillah, in the Name of the Almighty. Hail to the workers, informal workers - the vendors , barangay health workers, manual labor, unmonetized work of women, OFWs , basureros, NGO workers. And to those who are in the payroll, remember the applicants rejected in favor of you. May we honor the paycheck with the work due it as it is IBADAH . To those victimized by the management in whatever way, fight back, write your grievance, submit it to the CSC, DOLE or proper authorities. Your power is your voice so that others wont be victimized , and so your family who depends on your salary can be fought for. To the bosses, thank you but also recognize merit, and share kindness in a handshake or Salaam , share credit and teamwork in a kape kape minsan. Recognize hard work in awards or a certificate. May there be jobs for the countless graduates who await opportunity for the sun. Young people are the building block of a post-conflict society, they are the workers, they are the base for development. Please tap into them, harness their talent.
