On May 3, 2014, the Lewiston Police Department’s Community Resource Team in conjunction with the Central Maine Violent Crimes Task Force and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency continued its “Operation Hot Spot” efforts in addressing citizen complaints of prostitution. This operation resulted in two arrests for engaging in prostitution. The Lewiston Police Department was awarded funding to conduct these targeted enforcements through Project Safe Neighborhood. The Lewiston Police Department will continue these regular focused efforts throughout the year. A community meeting will be held on May 8, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Root Cellar, which is located at 89 Birch St. in Lewiston. Both the Lewiston Police Department and the Root Cellar encourage the community to attend. Lewiston Police Chief Michael Bussiere, and representatives from federal and state law enforcement agencies will be present at this community forum.
