On Monday, July 15th, the Crosby-Ironton School Board will be hosting a financial-facts meeting regarding the referendum scheduled for this November. The purpose of this meeting will be to explore some financial options, with regard to renewing the school district’s existing referendum of $404 per pupil unit that will expire on June 30, 2014. The legislature recently passed a law with a provision that allows school boards to approve a referendum levy of $300 per pupil unit that would expire after five years. Examples of some options now facing the school district: 1. Does the district exercise its new authority and approve $300 p.p.u., with a vote of the school board and then go to the public for the remaining $104 p.p.u.? Note: The $300 p.p.u., if approved by the school board, would be in effect for five (5) years. 2. Does the district take the full $404 p.p.u. to the public in November and ask for a renewal? If the referendum renewal would pass, it would be in effect for the next ten (10) years. Due to the gravity of these decisions, the school board asks that the public attend this meeting. The meeting will begin with a more detailed analysis, using current financial projections presented by the school district’s financial consulting firm. The time and date of this meeting is Monday, July 15, 2013, at 6:00 p.m., in the Forum Room (entrance located across the street from Crosby Dairy Queen).
