On Monday during the Years 3-8 assembly, we learnt all sorts of fascinating facts about bee-keeping from Mr Tim Fisher, our violin teacher. Mr Fisher and his wife keep bees and, in his inimitable way, Mr Fisher had everyone spellbound as he told us all about his interesting hobby. He brought a beehive to use as an example to demonstrate many of the interesting behaviours displayed by bees. He talked about the thrills and risks of bee keeping and the mechanics of building a beehive. We also learned how queen bees are formed, the process of dethroning her and how and why bees swarm. Mr Fisher arrives at school each week on a bright green, 35 year-old motor-bike, with violin in hand. He is a wonderful member of the music teaching team and his pupils benefit from his expertise; his warm, encouraging manner; and his delightful sense of humour!
