On PC, you can opt to use Sony’s PC Companion software to copy your tracks over to your Xperia phone. First, connect your Xperia Z3 or Xperia Z3 Compact to your PC, using the provided USB cable. Pull down the notification bar on your phone by dragging your finger down from the top of the screen and tap ‘Install software’. This will begin the PC Companion installation on your PC. Note that your PC needs to be connected to the internet as files will download. When the initial installation’s done, the program will load up and give you an overview of the features. You can transfer all kinds of stuff like contacts, apps and media from your old phone, but for now we’re interested in the Media Go section for transferring music. Give it a click, and let it set up. Once you’re in, check out the tabs on the left side of the screen. The ‘Sony Xperia Z3/Z3 Compact’ section shows you what music is already stashed on your phone, while the ‘Library’ bit lists all of the media on your PC. Click on ‘Music’ in the Library section, and you should see all of your tunes currently sat on the computer. Just click on whatever you want to copy across, then hit ‘Add to’ down in the bottom right. Your music will be chucked onto your phone for you. Using Windows Explorer Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop your music onto your phone with Windows Explorer. First, connect your Xperia Z3 or Xperia Z3 Compact to your PC, using the provided USB cable. Next task is to open Windows Explorer. If you’re in Windows 8, find the ‘File Explorer’ icon under ‘Windows System’ and click it. If you’re in a previous version of Windows, just hit the Windows key and E at the same time. Inside Windows Explorer, look to the left-hand column. Under the ‘This PC’ banner you should see a small phone icon labelled ‘Xperia Z3’ or ‘Xperia Z3 Compact’. Click on that, and then double-click the ‘Internal Storage’ icon that appears in the main window. Browse to the Music folder and double-click it. This is where you need to copy your music files to, so they’ll show up on your phone. Now, open another Explorer window using Windows key and E, then browse to the folder where your music is stored. Ideally, this should be in the Music folder under the This PC banner, just above your Xperia phone icon. When you have both windows open to where you need, simply click on the songs you want to copy across and drag them onto the phone’s music folder. They will then be transferred.
