On Radiolab I heard the backstory of the Norwegian adventurer who went to Antarctica by himself to travel to the South Pole. It was a 3-month journey-- he walked 10 hours alone each day. Along the way, he buried excess gear to lighten his load and to serve as markers for the return journey. This was the final marker and buried belongings. In his tired and emaciated state (he lost 55 lbs.) he completely forgot what he had buried. He expected random belongings, probably of no real use at this point. But this is how he felt when he discovered what was really in there. This guy just blew the lid off the joy-meter.
