On Saturday, November 13th, 1954, the Eastern Kentucky State College Maroons took on the Louisville Cardinals in the final game of the season. It was homecoming in Richmond, Easterns new head coach, Glenn Presnell, captured the victory over UofL 20-6 and Eastern finished the season 8-1-1. The previous season, All-American senior quarterback and defensive back Roy Kidd picked off UofL QB Johnny Unitas twice in his final game as a Maroon. Kidd and Coach Tom Samuels led the Maroons to a 20-13 win over the Cardinals at Louisville in Samuels last season as Easterns head coach. The Maroons finished 8-2 in 1953.
