On September 25, a working delegation from the State Bank of Vietnam (SVB) led by its Governor, Nguyen Van Binh, worked with Ly Son Island district leaders in the central province of Quang Ngai, resulting in the confirmation that the State would give prompt support to the offshore fishing industry. (Photo : VNA) According to Mr. Binh, the Government’s Decree 67 on policies promoting the fisheries sector development was expected to encourage fishermen to modernise and develop their means of production and increase the value exploited from the sea.. He affirmed that the SVB would actively and responsibly carry out the Decree to support fishermen and enterprises by permitting access to loans to further develop the sea economy and protect national sovereignty. He asked the Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development, Ly Son district branch, to increase its transaction activities, including opening more transaction points on the island to facilitate loan access for fishermen and enterprises, thus boosting the sea economy and tourism development. During the trip, Mr. Binh gave the district VND10 billion which was mobilised from commercial banks to build restrooms for disadvantaged families; and gave presents to fishermen as well as sent regards to the lives of fishermen on the island./.
