On September 5th I adopted my cat Annie from the Morrison County - TopicsExpress

On September 5th I adopted my cat Annie from the Morrison County Animal Humane Society here in Little Falls. When I brought her home I noticed immediately that she was scratching and biting herself so when I checked her she was infested with fleas! I called the Humane Society Monday morning and told them this and they were rude and said they find that hard to believe but then eventually said that Annie did come into the humane society with fleas and that some of the other cats there got fleas from her as well. They told me I adopted her and its my problem now. I told them that I would go to social media if they didnt take care of this as I paid for a cat without the knowledge that she was infested with fleas. The board of directors Rose called me and provided me with a spray called Knock Out to spray around my house as well as 3 months of front line for Annie and for our 2 little dogs because they eventually ended up with fleas as also. We have battled these fleas for over 3 months now, washing everything continuously, giving our animals weekly flea baths, constant vacuuming with flea carpet powder, we used all the front line on our animals and used the whole bottle of knock out spray with no success. As a result of these fleas Annie scratched and bit herself up so bad that she developed a skin infection and has scabs all over most of her body and has raw skin. I talked to the humane society and they told me to take her to the vet. I took her to the vet last week in which it cost me $75.00 for them to give her a steroid injection to stop the itching and an antibiotic. I told the Humane Society that I believe they should be responsible for paying for this. I know in the contract that they are not responsible for any underlying issues meaning diabetes, etc when you adopt a pet but this is clearly not an underlying issue. I would expect an animal with fleas from a puppy mill, free barn cats advertised on Local sites but not the humane society where you pay for a pet. The Humane Society said they are not going to pay for it and was very rude and said to bring my cat back to the Humane Society! I thought that was really inappropriate as Annie has been with me for over 3 months, when you adopt a pet you make a commitment to give them stability and a good home, we are both bonded to each other and she has come along ways as she was very neglected and thats why she was taken to the shelter in the first place. Animals are like children, they feel hurt, joy, and everything that we do so for them of all people to be so inconsiderate disgusted me! Not only would I lose my cat, but I would also lose the adoption money, and be out the money I paid for the vet! I am telling this story to raise awareness so that no one else has to go through what I have went through because trust me, its not fun! If you are going to adopt a pet always check them over to make sure everything is ok. dont assume that the humane society has regardless of what they say. This is the 4th cat I have adopted from this Humane Society, I have donated before, and taken my animals there to have pictures with Santa and am really disappointed at the way they have handled this situation and treated me! I know they just fired one lady but still lack good customer service skills.
