On Sunday, 9-28-2014 at approximately 0639 hours the Iowa City Police Department responded to a panic alarm at Gasbys, 1310 S. Gilbert. The employee reports that a subject entered the business displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspect then kidnapped the employee and forced them into the employees vehicle and fled the scene. Several blocks later the employee fought to escape and was eventually pushed out of the moving vehicle. The employee sustained minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. The suspect is described as a black male, 58, 200 pounds wearing a black hoodie that was cut off above his pants, running pants with a stripe down the side, a white baseball cap and white athletic shoes. The suspect left the scene in the employees blue 1999 Ford Explorer, Iowa license 860WJY. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Kevin Bailey. Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
