On The Sudden Death of a Pug Mate: I would like to share my personal experience and opinion in hopes of helping those who are suddenly left without their pet. Vinny the Pug and I were together for the most incredible 13 years of my life. For some strange reason he filled a void in my life perfectly. One day I started smelling a foul odor coming from his mouth. I attributed it from not having had his teeth cleaned in a while. The vets biopsy confirmed a cancerous tumor. Despite the stitches holding the incision together, Vinnys natural inclination from feeling something on his tongue was to chew. No matter how hard I tried to explain to him he had to stop, he continued chewing and there was blood everywhere. I did everything I could to keep from making the ultimate decision of letting, but I chose to not allow him to suffer any longer. On March 15th at 3:PM I held Vinny tightly with my fingers pressed against his flesh so that as he slipped into unconsciousness, hed feel my presence. In his ear, I repeated the words I love you Vinny over and over again. My tears flowed freely, but I was not ashamed. Looking back, I can honestly say that I can not remember how long that period lasted. It seemed like several months, but was more likely weeks. I say all of this to say, loosing your pug mate suddenly or over a long period of time is hard either way. But, experiencing the deterioration of your pugs health over any period of time is by far the more cruel way to part with your mate. Like our children, our pets dont really belong to us, but are on loan for whatever period of time were blessed to have them. As for me, I cherish the memories of our good times together that Ive stored away in my heart. I hope all who have had to go down the same path that I went will find the inner peace Ive learned to experience after the loss of Vinny the Pug. Allen & Vinny the Pug 4-Ever!
