On This Day 1981 The Morbidity and Mortality weekly report of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention contained a report of five patients in Los Angeles who are suffering from a form of pneumonia only found in people with weakened immune system. Those five patients are recognized as the first persons to have AIDS 1850 Patrick Floyd Pat Garett American sheriff was born (Garett held several positions in law enforcement from police officer to customs officer. He is most famous for the shooting and killing of Billy the Kid who had at one time been a friend of his in the days of the Lincoln County War. Garett himself died by the gun. A very interesting story well worth further reading 1866 John McDoual Stuart Scottish explorer died (Stuart was the first to explore Australia via route from southern Australia to the north and then back again passing though the continents harshest terrain. Stuarts close attention to every detail ensured that his entire party returned safe and well from the expedition. The Stuart Highway one of Australias major routes is named in his honour)
