On Thursday, Ill be onstage at a conference called PopTech 2014 being interviewed in front of 600 people by my friend, Krista Tippett, whose On Being is one of the best things on the air. My friend and colleague Courtney Martin will be up there with me in whats being billed as a cross-generational dialogue about inner disciplines to ground outer lives that matter. Courtney is 34, and while Im too shy to reveal my age, Ill simply say that Im 41 years older than her! If youre asking, Whats PopTech?, thats what I wondered when I was invited to participate. Turns out its a fascinating organization that Im very glad to know about. Thru a variety of programs, including this annual conference, it supports a global community of innovators in diverse fields, helping them find ways to work together to push the edge of positive social change. The PopTech theme this year is Rebellion. Heres what they have to say about it: The spirit of rebellion is at the heart of some of the greatest advances in science, technology, medicine, business, design, art and more. It’s the fearlessness to cross boundaries, the willingness to deconstruct norms, the vision to identify opportunities in areas overlooked. It’s about leadership, courage and the instincts to grow, adapt and persevere. At PopTech 2014, were celebrating the rebellious possibilities that drive us ever forward. So at age 34 + 41 = ??, I look forward to continuing my rebellious ways in the company of fellow rebels, with a chance to meet and learn from folks who are making a real difference in our world! P.S.
