On Tuesday, April 22, the Smith Center for the Arts and the Geneva Historical Society will host a pre-release screening of the short film Club 86 at the Smith Opera House. Club 86 introduces audiences to a fascinating time in American history when music knit our nation together, one supper club at a time. Club 86 tells the story of the Geneva club that attracted some of the biggest names in music (including Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and Nat King Cole) in the late-1940s and early 1950s. The film features firsthand accounts of Club 86 provided by local residents and an original score by Emmy-Award winning composer, Kevin McDaniels. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the film starts at 7:30 p.m. After the film there will be a panel discussion and Q and A with filmmaker Jim Augustine. Appetizers will be provided by Club 86. Tickets are $10 per person and are currently available through the Smith Box office. All proceeds will benefit the Smith Center for the Arts and the Geneva Historical Society.
