On Tuesday January 6th (Epiphany) the Ashé Cultural Arts Center will co-host a seminar on enrollment in Louisiana’s Health Insurance Marketplace. Insights and commentary will be led by Jim Brown of The Actors Fund and co-sponsored by the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and Assistance Foundation (NOMC & AF). The forum will assist cultural workers, visual and performing artists, entertainment professionals, artisans and craftspeople in the New Orleans area find quality, affordable health insurance. It explains in detail all of the elements of the ACA and guides attendees through the process of enrolling in one of the local plans on the insurance marketplace as well as in government-sponsored plans, such as Medicaid and Child Health plans. The information presented in unbiased and has no corporate sponsorship. The goal is to see every New Orleans musician and artist become insured. Representatives from Blue Cross Blue Shield, Swanson Insurance and more will also be available to answer questions about their ACA insurance plans. There will be ample time during and after the forum for questions and discussion of personal options. Food and beverages will be provided. Jim Brown is the National Director of Health Services at The Actors Fund overseeing their Al Hirschfeld Free Health Clinic and supervising their Artists’ Health Insurance Resource Center and the AHIRC health care information website (ahirc.org). Jim comes from an insurance background, having worked for both Aetna Health Plans and Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, and serving as a managed care regulator for the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance.
