On Wednesday I undertook a very large rescue. A huge thankyou to Dita who attended with me. Basically a lovely lady was experiencing a massive number of guinea pigs that were free ranging in her backyard. These are not her guinea pigs and started appearing in her yard about a year back. At that point she thought they were sweet and started to feed them. However as time went by she would see more and more appear with young being born etc. The guinea pigs are freely moving between about 8 houses. However with her feeding them and having low lying overgrown bushes it is easy to see why they would choose to reside there for safety. As it was, there were ravens in the tree just waiting for breakfast. A huge 38 piggies were brought into care, however while this is the majority of those on the property, they are coming and going in and out of the fence palings so there are more. The reality is that animal control will be going to this location at some point if this continues as they are not safe and also multiplying. Animals were being killed and hurt in her yard by other predators and while we were there a cat tried to catch some. A huge thankyou to Rhonda, Niomi ( Guinea pigs Australia), Rhianna ( Nibbles rescue) for taking a few of the piggies which lightens my load here a little with a shelter that is already at capacity. I will just quickly post a few of the photos of the new arrivals who are presently settling in.
