On Wednesday night the first ever Mackay Brothers A grade player - TopicsExpress

On Wednesday night the first ever Mackay Brothers A grade player to play State of Origin will take the field for Queensland. Daly Cherry Evans played A grade for Brothers as an 18 year old in a premiership winning team. Weekend Game Results Brothers v Moranbah at Moranbah Reserve – Brothers 14, Moranbah 36 A Grade – Brothers 18, Moranbah 50 There was no under 18 game at Moranbah on Saturday to suit the convenience of Moranbah whose players were not available. The game will be played on 29 July 2013 before the Cutters game. The reserve grade started with Moranbah receiving eight penalties in a row which gave them field dominance and numerous opportunities to score. It was not until 20 minutes into the game that Brothers gained field position and scored after receiving six penalties in a row a metre from the try line. The Brothers try scorers were – Sam Wilson (2) and Alex Hay (1). Bradley Boyd accredited himself well at full back and probably found the game harder than playing A grade. There was a solid effort from all of the players who regularly turn up and put in their best for the team. The stand out player for Brothers was Eli Bleakley who never stopped trying all night. The A grade also had a hard night at the office with a number of penalties early in the game giving Moranbah dominance. Coach Troy Evans had some interesting discussions with referee Anthony Anderson after Moranbah knocked on and the game was allowed to flow and the second try scored. Moranbah was the better team on the night with some brilliant attacking moves, most of which originating from their full back, Cameron White. One of the positives was three trys scored by Aiden Daniels on the wing after great back line movements and Aiden Daniels kicking to the centre of the field after some good work in a narrow corridor and Brock Barba fielding the ball and scoring. Matt Skaife had a great game. One of his efforts in saving a 40/20 kick was a pleasure to watch. The strong men Jerome Ikemo, Tony Sasuga and Kane Taylor all showed great courage. The 3 points for the Brothers man of the match went to Kane Taylor. Hopefully after a disappointing number of weeks we will have players who have been missing from A grade back and the run into the finals will see Brothers fielding strong teams who will show what great players we have.
