On What We Did... I have had my hand in nurturing a culture for youth in my city. Brick by brick we built a fortress. This consumerist, elitist, popular culture which is now both coming to fruition and losing its roots. A select few through faith in shared ideals and dedication have seen this thing grow. We have reached a point of commodification of the artform which serves those who have capitalized on the business. Here we stand at the bastard sunrise of a new age where our artists are exploited and big business benefits. We were sub-frequency socialist privateers in untested economic waters. Now my friends who would have followed me to the ends of the earth to chase the dream are emprisoned in our own home. Politics have replaced comraderie. Discounts have replaced discourse. The poetic beauty of who we are is lost in the midst of invoices and package deals. This breaks my heart. Get paid your worth. Make it worth your while. Blow their minds. Keep yours in check. I hope those that have trained in my camp respect the foundation. We did it together. Hand in hand. Working for something bigger than ourselves. We made something from nothing. We built a place in the sun for the underdogs. To all the kids that have come up to me and said, Thank you for what you have done. I salute you. I did it for you. I will see you on stage. To those that say it just to seem like they are down with me. I wish you the best of success. When your home is full and your heart is still empty... you cant sit with me.
