On a VERY serious note- tomorrow is World Autism Awareness Day. When R was 3- after being subjected to every test, scan, and examination under the sun they sent us to the State Hospital to meet w a doctor. I was informed R had a very rare mental illness known as autism. The doctor asked if he could follow and study Robert throughout his life because autism was so rare- I consented. That very same doctor is now head of a the autism research team at DUKE and sadly what was a rarity is now affecting 1 in every 66 children. That was 13 years ago. To go from a medical rarity to 1 in 66 is staggering. If you havent been affected you will be- unless we find a cure.Just wanted you to be aware.
