On a day when I was feeling all the weight of my years...a little bummed out..I was pleasantly surprised by an encounter with Mason Clark. Mason is the grandson of my cousin Gwen Clark...and is my next door neighbor. As I was walking down my driveway to check my mail...Mason called me out to see his newest toy...a balsa wood glider that he had got at Ace Hardware but had modified to fly better! Suddenly, I was transported back to a simpler time and place when a 25 cent glider was all I could ever ask for! We flew it for a while and I was telling him about how I played with the same toy as a boy...and told him that I made pretty good paper airplanes as well! Mason ran into the house and got a piece of computer paper...and challenged me to put up or shut up! I made my best paper glider...and he proceeded to modify it so it flew even better! I honestly lost track of time and was reminded that kids today are no different from my generation! I was at a birthday party for Phyllis Maddoxs granddaughter this weekend...they played old fashioned yard games like bobbing for apples and an egg toss and they all thought it was wonderful! My own grandsons had just as soon play with the box...as the toys inside! Lesson learned...give your kids and grandkids a chance to be creative...and some day theyll grow up and change the world...for the better!
