On a late September afternoon in 1970, D&Hs southbound train No. - TopicsExpress

On a late September afternoon in 1970, D&Hs southbound train No. 34, the Laurentian, meets northbound manifest ATC-4 on the Mohawk River bridge in Schenectady, N.Y. I was the flagman on ATC-4, and unknown to me at the time was that this was the northbound leg of the last trip I was ever to make as a D&H trainman. Upon my return to my home terminal in Binghamton I was laid off (the old heads having returned to work from the summer vacation season), and soon the need to put food on the family table resulted in me taking a non-railroad job.
