On a more serious note, I took this picture the other day when I was walking down the bridge. The site now appears to be totally derelict. I remember in the 1940s & 50s when it was a hub of activity. The front of the site was a coal yard for the various local coal dealers. I remember Dave Mellors, Chambers (King Coal) & I believe our coal man `Redgates`. They each had an office which consisted of a small shed. When you needed coal you paid them a visit (no phones in them days) ordered your coal & they delivered as agreed. At the back of the coal yard was a large allotment area going back to the fence at the bottom of the site. In more recent times there was the Cement works , you`ll no doubt remember the large yellow cement hoppers which stood for years. I dont know who owns the site but I would have thought it was now ripe for re-development.
