On lunch but I thought this was important.. I wrote a letter to Steve Stivers about Lyme disease and the need for help in the is area.. I appreciate this opportunity to correspond with you. Like you, I strongly support efforts to raise awareness for the needs and goals of patients and families living with rare diseases, such as Lyme disease. As a member of the House Rare Disease Caucus, I want to focus on informing and educating individuals. I believe thousands of people suffer alone from rare diseases, including Lyme disease, and raising awareness for these diseases will allow us to help doctors properly diagnose victims and deliver better care to those suffering. I also understand the importance of funding for Lyme disease research. The emotional and financial toll of this disease is devastating, and those affected by it deserve the best care possible. I want to express that I have always been a very strong supporter of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which fund research for Lyme disease. Recently, I sent a letter of support for NIH funding to the House Appropriations Committee for its consideration of Fiscal Year (FY) 2014 spending bills. I feel strongly that federal investments in medical research will create jobs, save lives, reduce health costs and strengthen the nation. I want to help the friend you mentioned in your letter.
