On my drive home from training this morning the penny dropped and I realised the quality I respect most in people, the thing that inspires me to to better myself and hopefully make the lives of those around me better. Its people who choose to go the hard route. Not because they are wanting to punish themselves but because they know the results of choosing the harder path has rewards that are longer term than those that come from taking it easy. I saw that today with James Vunileva, a man that has chosen to take the hard path, not for glory, not for reward but because he wants to live. Bear crawling up the Bullock Track by Western Springs is hard enough but when you are tipping the scales at 200+kgs it must seem like Mt Cook. respect brother. Continue your journey, the brothers have your back. So many examples but the other one that stuck in my mind was from a few years back when my wife chose to do the Auckland Marathon, she had a choice at the halfway mark of heading down the road to the finish and completing a half but at the fork in the road she chose the difficult path and went off to complete her full. Its just how she is and she will always amaze me with her single minded determination to complete the job the right way - not the easy way. Today shes off to audition for a musical and shes fighting a full on cold but thats just her - bloody Greeks :) Too choice.
