On my first solo backpacking trip in sierras this afternoon, I had an up-close and personal bear encounter. Ten minutes later had a second bear encounter, at even closer range. Both bears made clear I was not welcome and now I had a bear ahead of me and a bear behind me. Luckily the bear behind me did not show his face again and I made it back. Feeling very happy to be living another day in this life on planet earth. Maybe not so keen to go solo backpacking for awhile. Happily ensconced in a roadside motel for the night. Buddy made it out okay too. He is not scared of bears.
