On my mind this morning. My wife shared a Facebook video. Texas Tech University did a video survey of students. The results. Most of those surveyed did NOT know from whom we gained our independence in the Revolutionary War nor when the war was fought. They did NOT know who fought in the Civil War, when it was fought, and who won. They DID know in what television show Snooki appears and to whom Brad Pitt was married. I am not going to step on a soapbox about education or people now-a-days. Here is my concern. We need to know our stories. My son, who is adopted, at times will ask, Where did I get my athletic ability? Or, he will ask, Do you think my birth parents like to dance? He asks, in part, because his athletic ability exceeds that of my wife and me. And, if you ever saw me try to dance...well, lets just leave it at that. He asks, in greater part, because he wants to know to whom he is connected. It is a human yearning to know where we fit into this world. If our knowledge of story is limited to reality TV and movie stars, we are connected to something that does really exist. As Christians, our story is written by God. God writes us into the divine story out of sheer love for each of us. God wants us to be in the story. You ARE part of Gods story. As Christians, we are called to the mission of telling this story to people that are lonely, disconnected, and yearning to know who they are. I invite you to tell people that they are in Gods story. Blessings. Pastor Tim @timmentzer (By the way, please do not ask me who Snooki is, because I have no idea.)
