On my way to Amsterdam for a week long conference. The World Cocoa Conference will be bringing together 1.500+ experts in the cocoa industry. Cocoa is coming to Amsterdam. Well be talking sustainability for five whole days. Issues such as Child Labour, poverty, the responsibility of companies and government to make a change etc... A major success before the conference has even started is the amount of civil society actors we were able to make part of the programme. We worked hard for it over the years, but we have people speaking on all the relevant topics, from mainstage. This is something that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. I do believe cocoa is changing, slowly but surely. I will be moderating a panel on who is earning what in the cocoa chain, and well be presenting two papers I have (co) written, on living income and poverty for cocoa farmers, and on the distribution of value throughout the whole supply chain. A week away from the family, but it will be a good week, nonetheless.
