On occasion, Jesus would preach to large numbers of people, but he primarily ministered to small groups, or even one. Peter declared at the Last Supper, you are the Christ, but do we know with certainty that any of the thousands that He fed ever saw Him as anything more than the bread and fish guy? We do read where the disciples came across a man casting out demons in Jesus name and the disciples rebuked him, and in return, Christ rebuked them. This man is evidence that at least some of the people cane to know Him as something more. Here is a guy going around casting out demons, and yet he had no church affiliation that we know of, and he had to have been in Gods will, otherwise the demons would not have obeyed, (which we read happened to another man attempting the same feat). We read in the gospels that without Jesus, we can do nothing. The Lord said to his disciples, I have sheep that you know nothing of, further proof of that would be Roman Centurian who asked Jesus to heal his servamt, or the Centurian, at Calvary, who said, surely this man was the Son of God. Then there was Joseph of Aramathea, who was we know was a follower of our Lord, and was there at His burial, so some of the masses had to have known Jesus as the long awaited upon Messiah. Now true, the crowds did hail Him as Hosanna, and King of Kings when Jesus entered into Jerusalem riding on a donkey, yet many of those same people soon fell away when Jesus didnt cast down the pagan, Roman rulers and establish His Kingdom, and many went on to even yell crucify Him, crucify Him! Now, the question we might ask ourselves this morning is do we know Jesus as Lord and Savior, or do we only see Jesus as the miracle worker, and then quickly fall away when He doesnt do the things, even the miracles that we expect Him to do? Jesus took up His cross and was obedient to the Father unto death. Will you too deny yourself, take up your cross and follow Him? Peace be with you, but not as the world gives peace.
