On our way back home the driver of our vehicle asked me a question How come Obama who does not a look like a foreigner (euphemism for White) become the President of America. I explained to him that not all Americans are Caucasians though most of them are. Obama is an African - American in real sense ( his Father is from Kenya and mother an American) who by virtue of his talents and hard work became arguably the most powerful person on earth. The driver who is a big fan of Narendra Modi went on further I heard that Obama regularly takes political and administrative advises from Modi. Dont you think so ? I chuckled and choosed not to answer this one as I didnt want to dishearten the fan in him. A lie repeated hundred times can turn out to be truth. During my growing up days in Bhubaneswar there used to be a widely circulated story attributed to the brain of Dr. H.K. Mahatab, an ex-CM of Orissa. Considered to be a wily politician of his days it is said that after his death America secretly fetched his head to explore the reasons behind his shrewd political brain. It is still supposed to be well preserved is some remote research lab in US. Source of this GULLI ( a light hearted joke) is most likely the Old Town area of Bhubaneswar where he still has a lot of fans. Many credit him for being the Founding Father of the New Capital city of Bhubaneswar. This story about his head is a devotional lie which transformed itself into a well believed truth. I met this gentleman from our neighborhood who strongly believed in this adage and asked me whether I have ever encountered Mahatabs head in America. He is an educated, retired govt servant and he wasnt kidding. May be one fine afternoon I might stumble upon a mummified head in some museum in US with a slab underneath it The Brainiest Head in the history of Mankind. Till then let these urban legends and devotional myths live another day.
